Actor Jonathan Majors has been found guilty, by a New York jury, of assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment.
The domestic abuse case has been extensively reported on for many months now. It all started with an incident Majors had with his girlfriend last March. The consistent stream of revelations since then have really hit Majors hard.
Majors was found not guilty of one of the counts of assault in the third degree and not guilty of aggravated harassment in second degree. That doesn’t seem to matter much. The damage has been done. Sentencing is on February 6 and he could face up to a year in jail, but according to several legal heads, it’s highly unlikely he’ll serve that much time.
Majors’ fate, and career, are practically sealed now: it’s over for him. The downfall has been completed.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney quickly announces that he’s been dropped from “Avengers: Secret Wars”. He also had a well-reviewed film picked up at Sundance earlier this year: “Magazine Dreams.” I’m not sure what Searchlight will do with that one, but it’s certainly not going to theaters now.
The actor was supposed to play Kang the Conqueror, the main villain in the next ‘Avengers’ movie and a character who was supposed to be central in connecting all of the stories together. Kang has already appeared in both the first season of “Loki” and, more recently, in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” He was set to appear in, at least, five additional projects. That’ll all be scrapped.
What’s so incredible about Majors’ epic fall from grace is the timing of it. He had two #1 movies at the box-office this year, an Oscar-buzzed performance (“Magazine Dreams”), a central role in the MCU and he was going to star in Spike Lee’s next film. His stock was skyrocketing. Not anymore.
