Listen, there wasn’t much of a chance that Zack Snyder was going to get a fair shake with critics. They never liked him, and he never liked them.
That’s why it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that his sci-fi Netflix extravaganza, “Rebel Moon,” is bombing hard with critics. It’s actually titled “Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire,” and has a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes and 32 on Metacritic.
This seems to be the usual rinse and repeat format of Snyder’s career. Here’s how it usually goes: he releases a new film, critics hate it and then his ardent fans vehemently demand a “Director’s Cut”. The only difference in the case of “Rebel Moon” is that an R-rated “Director’s Cut” is actually coming, early next year.
We’ll know how the film fares with Snyder fans, and general audiences, when it gets a special early release on Netflix on Dec. 21 at 10 p.m. ET. It’s going to be watched by millions and will no doubt be a successful launch for Netflix, but will people care enough to get excited for Part Two?
