Julius Onah’s “Captain America: Brave New World” isn’t coming out until February 2025, but work is soon about to restart on the MCU movie.
Matthew Orton has been hired by Marvel to pen additional scenes and material. Orton will work on material that will be shot in additional photography, which will take place in spring-summer of 2024.
Should we start worrying about this latest ‘Captain America’ movie? It’s a real bummer that Onah has to go through this ordeal — he was a Sundance darling in 2019 for directing the excellent “Luce.” Now, he’s been zapped into the Marvel machine.
If you remember, last month, Jeff Sneider reported that ‘Brave New World’ was being delayed by more than a year, moving to a February 2025 launch, this after it "didn't do great in a test screening.”
A week later, Daniel Richtman said the reason why Disney had called for an extensive five-months of reshoots was because Marvel, who got to see a rough cut of the film, felt the action scenes “were not big or satisfying enough”.
‘Brave New World’ is indeed getting extensive reshoots — from next February to May — with three major action sequences being reshot from scratch. Yes, that’s a whopping four to five months of reshoots — it’s almost like shooting a whole new movie. Leads Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford are said to be part of the production relaunch.
‘Brave New World’ had originally wrapped filming last June, and was set for a July 2024 release date. There are red flags all over this one. You don’t just push a major movie like this out of your calendar unless trouble is brewing.
