Barry Keoghan has addressed his possible role as The Joker in Matt Reeves' The Batman - Part II, and, after these comments, I would bet that he will be back for the sequel.
While chatting with E Talk, Keoghan was asked about his return in the ‘Batman’ sequel, and even though he couldn’t confirm anything, his response says it all. Way to keep it a secret, Barry.
I can't really say anything about that. It would be exciting, wouldn't it? To see the Joker come to life again. My smile says all, you know what I mean?
Keoghan’s Joker shows up near the end of “The Batman” as an unnamed Arkham Prisoner who converses with The Riddler (Paul Dano), but it soon becomes clear that he's supposed to be The Joker. There have been rumors ever since ever Keoghan would have a far larger role in the sequel.
Also expected to return for the sequel are Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell. There have been rumors of Dick Grayson, aka Robin, also joining in this time around. Nothing’s really been confirmed.
Last I heard, “The Batman - Part Two” was eyeing a March 2024 production start. I have no idea if that’s still the plan or if the strikes have delayed it a bit. We’ve so far had no casting announcements.
“The Batman” was hailed as an ambitious return to form for the Caped Crusader. It was a near 3-hour movie that grossed $369.3 million in the United States, and $401.6 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $770.9 million.
Critics were also positively receptive towards the film. “The Batman” appeared in over 150 critics top 10 lists, making it the 11th most cited film of 2022.
“The Batman - Part II” is set to release in theaters on October 3, 2025.
