The strike saw many productions getting delayed, some even scrapped. If a deal does come to pass in the coming days then we’re going to be seeing some of these orphaned movies getting picked up.
Netflix also used the strikes to get rid of some projects, including Maggie Gyllenhaal's “The Bride” which, last we heard, was being shopped elsewhere. Penelope Cruz had the offer for The Bride and Christian Bale was attached as Doctor Frankenstein.
Some good news.
I can report that Warner Bros is close to a deal in acquiring “The Bride.” The aim is for a March 2024 production start. The budget for the film is said to be around $80 million.
I had reported in August that Gyllenhaal was going to be directing this remake of “Bride of Frankenstein” for Netflix. The project was hotly anticipated, not just due to Cruz and Bale’s involvement, but, moreso because Gylenhaal was behind the camera for her sophomore effort.
Gylenhaal helmed the Netflix-backed 2021 psychological drama, “The Lost Daughter,” starring Olivia Colman, which turned out to be a critical hit. It also garnered three Oscar nominations and won Gylenhaal Best Screenplay honors at Venice.
