An EW exclusive gives us a trailer for Jon Woo’s dialogue-free “Silent Night.” It’s a real doozy, a revenge story filled with bloody bone-crunching action.
The trailer claims Woo is “one of the best action directors of all-time.”? Well, is he? His three Hong-Kong action classics of the ‘80s (“The Killer,” “Hard Boiled” and “A Better Tomorrow”) were game changers that reinvented Hollywood action in the ‘90s. There were a ton of Woo copycats, which means his influence unmistaken.
However, Woo hasn’t made a great movie in over three decades. 1997’s “Face/Off” is the film that many people point to as Woo’s last great one. That film benefited from two batsh*t crazy performances from Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.
The test reactions for “Silent Night” have been excellent, with a reader telling me it’s the best American film Woo’s ever made. Regardless, we’ll get to find out for ourselves when “Silent Night” gets released theatrically on December 1st.
