The final trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” (11.22.23) is glorious. It’s all set to the sounds of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” The film has yet to be screened for critics, but I’m hearing first week of November we’ll get to see this bad boy.
Joaquin Phoenix looks, yet again, eerily disturbed in every frame. Vanessa Kirby, a wonderful actress, is as cunning as ever. This is Scott in epic mode, which has translated in the past to such works as “Gladiator,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” and “Exodus: Gods and Kings.”
Too bad we won’t be getting the 4-hour cut in theaters. The theatrical version is 157 minutes. The film was test-screened, I believe, 3 times — the reactions I had originally posted were masterpiece, masterpiece, mixed, mixed and negative. Per the reports, there are six battle scenes in the film and the trailer does have a nice montage of them.
The photography comes to us from Scott’s go-to DP Dariusz Wolski, I noticed lots of greys being used here and the effects somewhat look Snyder-ized — that’s the only complaint you’ll get from me about this trailer.
