Steven Soderbergh just dropped his annual seen/read list for 2022 and his logging shows that he’s watched David Fincher’s ”The Killer” four times in a week during the month of August.
Soderbergh and Fincher are old buddies, it was probably screened as a sign of cordial friendship and for Soderbergh to give his two cents about the film. What we’re not sure about is why the film has taken this long to get released.
Obviously, Netflix won’t be dumping this one this early in the year, I assume a summer or fall release is in the cards for “The Killer.”
Fincher was said to have a 3-hour cut of the film, but one look at its Wikipedia page and it lists “The Killer” as being 158 minutes. Not too sure how trust-worthy that can be since just about anyone can edit the page.
“The Killer” started production in November 2021 and wrapped shorting this past March. That’s over 11 months of post-production so far, and we all know Fincher takes an obsessively lengthy time in the editing room.
The film stars Michael Fassbender as an assassin who begins to psychologically crack as he develops a conscience, even as his clients continue to demand his skills. Tilda Swinton is also part of the cast. “The Killer” is an adaptation of Alexis Nolent’s graphic novel series. ”Seven” screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker was hired to adapt Nolent’s novels.
