UPDATE: I had it confirmed that “Beau is Afraid” is 179 minutes. As suspected, Aster snipped an hour from his earlier cut.
The trailer for Ari Aster’s “Beau is Afraid” has been unveiled by A24. It looks and feels like Charlie Kaufman’s “Synecdoche, New York,” which means It looks totally inaccessible.
This will be a film soaked in surrealism. There’s also a lot of existential dread as well. Joaquin Phoenix looks perfectly at home. What is it about? In a nutshell, mommy issues. Dark, gloomy, despairing mommy issues.
I’m currently looking into what the actual runtime is for the film. An early cut had it at four hours, but I heard that it was cut down to three hours late last year.
The film hits theaters on April 21st.
