The quota mob groups were surely going to dissect today’s DGA nominees. An advocacy group by the name of “Women in Film” has called out the DGA for lack of female filmmakers in the final five of today’s top category.
In a statement Wednesday, the group pointed out Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking,” Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Woman King,” Chinonye Chukwu’s “Till” and Maria Schrader’s “She Said” as films helmed by women directors who deserved to be nominated.
The group said they want a “more balanced slate” of nominees next time around. They don’t even add “if quality permits” because their crusade has nothing to do with quality, but, rather, quotas.
Four of the five nominees in the first-time feature category were women: Alice Diop (“Saint Omer”), Audrey Diwan (“Happening”), Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic (“Murina” “) and Charlotte Wells (“Aftersun”).
