Warner Bros.’ “Elvis” keeps trudging along. The Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic is projected to earn $11.3 million this weekend. By Sunday, its domestic earnings should be at around $92 million. It’ll reach $100 million by mid-week.
When compared to other rock biopics, “Rocketman” ($95 million), “Bohemian Rhapsody” ($214 million) and “Straight Outta Compton” ($160 million), one can safely assume that “Elvis” is doing well.
The film has made around $160 million worldwide, and well on its way to at least doubling its $85 million budget. It’s also one of the few major studio films this summer to have earned mostly positive reviews (along with “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “The Black Phone”).
