Blacklisted in Hollywood these last five years, Johnny Depp’s comeback film, post-Heard trial, has just started shooting in Versailles and Paris.
Depp stars as King Louis XV in French director Maïwenn’s “La Favorite.” Production is set to take up Depp’s entire summer. The actor doesn’t have anything else lined up after this, but here’s hoping he gets more projects in due time.
Could you just imagine the Cannes press conference for ”La Favorite”? Despite not being a critical darling, Maïwenn has been a mainstay of the fest for quite a few years now, her last three films (DNA, Mon Roi and Polisse) have been screened at the fest.
Meanwhile, Depp was deemed persona non grata in Hollywood after being (falsely?) accused of domestic violence by former wife Amber Heard. He’s been relegated to making indie and foreign films these last few years (“Minamata,” “Waiting For the Barbarians,” “City of Lies”).
The irony of the Heard v Depp saga is that court records and testimony eventually showed that she was the abuser. Go figure. Depp eventually won the case, but many in the media are still in total denial over the verdict.
