Now that the core of its 2022 lineup has been revealed, the Toronto International Film Festival is set to announce the sidebars. First comes the Midnight Madness section on Tuesday.
The wonderful ambience of the Ryerson theater will be missed. The Ryerson, an old-school university theater, did not renew its contract with TIFF. I’m not entirely sure where the MM screenings will take place this year — maybe Scotia Bank? Maybe the Lightbox?
Potential titles that would fit the bill quite well for these 11:59pm screenings include Eli Roth’s “Borderlands,” Ti West’s “Pearl” David Gordon Green’s “Halloween Ends,” Parker Finn’s “Smile,” Jon Wright’s “Unwelcome,” and Eric Appel’s “Weird Al: The Al Yankovic Story.”
