UPDATED: This is going to have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival, as per Variety. Consider me shocked by this announcement as it looks like a glossy picture, something NYFF usually doesn’t select.
Buzz is growing for Chinonye Chukwu’s “Till.” A trailer was released this morning.
Chukwu’s film is slated for a primo October 21st release date, it’s a biopic tackling Mamie Till-Mobley (Danielle Deadwyler), an American educator and activist who pursued justice after the 1955 lynching of her 14-year-old son Emmett Till (Jalyn Hall).
Test-screenings have also been excellent, with the word “intense” having been uttered a few times. Danielle Deadwyler looks fantastic in the trailer,. Despite the biopic/courtroom drama tropes on display this could be a major acting contender.
Chukwu wrote and directed the Sundance-winning “Clemency” and although I wasn’t a fan of the film itself, it was exceptionally well-shot by her. It definitely paved the way for a potential future talent behind the camera.
