I wasn’t that surprised the Toronto International Film Festival selected Nicolas Stoller’s “BROS” as a world premiere last week. The early buzz for this comedy has been exceptional. I wrote on 04.29.22:
“Test-screenings have gone incredibly well for the film, which is said to be the first comedy to have an all-LGBT cast. Even the straight characters are being played by LGBT actors. Of course, that does not necessarily equate to quality, but word is that the film is flat-out hilarious.
I have an actual reaction from an LA test screening:
Saw Bros is premiering at TIFF and I actually caught it a few months back. It’s the movie Judd Apatow should have directed rather than that Netflix disaster. Actually, it’s the best Apatow that he never wrote or directed. If Bridesmaids & The Big Sick could secure a Screenplay nom, Bros is certainly on its way. It’s easily one of the best R-Rated studio comedies in years. Will play to a big audience (not just the LGBT community) and any theater audience will eat it up.
The film follows two men with commitment problems taking a crack at serious relationships. It’s PRODUCED by Judd Apatow. The TIFF world premiere will occur during the second day of the festival.
