Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera just had a fascinating interview with Variety in which he spoke about potential Telluride films:
My impression is that there will be fewer films going from Venice to Telluride this year — not that there aren’t any. One that is going [to Telluride] is “TÁR,” as are the Iñárritu and Guadagnino films. But in past years there were more, which has resulted in Venice being a bit less “top-heavy” this year.
Quite intriguing that he doesnt mention Aronofsky, Zeller, McDonagh, Dominik, and Schrader.
We already know Telluride didn’t like “Don’t Worry Darling,” so that one’s out of the picture. I would think, now that they are not Venice-bound, “Women Talking” and “She Said” will be world premieres at Telluride.
The Telluride selection committee are supposed to see Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise” next week. That film, just like Inarritu’s, is still in the very late stages of post-production.
