This year’s Cannes Film Festival will have plenty of lengthy marathons. Among the competition titles, Albert Serra’s “Pacification” (165 minutes) Saeed Roustaee’s “Leila’s Brothers” (165 minutes), and Ruben Ostlund’s “Triangle of Sadness” (150 minutes).
Shockingly enough, none of these three films compares to Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” (159 minutes). The 2 hour and 49 minute movie is set to be the longest of Luhrmann’s career. That’s a very ambitious runtime. At some point, there was a rumour that it test-screened at 195 minutes, so a 26 minute snip may have occurred.
“Elvis” will be shown out of Competition on 05.20.22 at the Lumiere theatre. It’s set to open in theatres around a month later on June 24th. The film stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as his manager Colonel Parker.
