I am absolutely fascinated by the prospect of Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” finally getting made. The man is shelling out his own money to help produce this long-gestating passion project of his.
A Variety interview with Coppola has “Megalopolis,” which would mark his first film since 2011’s “Twixt,” potentially shooting in the fall. It’s been reported that Coppola will invest $120 million of his own money to make the damn thing
The legendary writer-director sold a portion of his wine empire to finance the upcoming epic. Why? Because he damn well can. He probably has money to spare. At least this will give the master TOTAL CREATIVE CONTROL over the whole project.
Coppola: “I’m going to make ‘Megalopolis’ and I tell you that people are going to be scratching their heads saying, ‘Wow, it has so much in it that we didn’t understand at first that we understand now.’ That’s my hope.”
