Bradley Cooper, one of the last real movie stars left, will play Frank Bullitt in Steven Spielberg’s next film [via Deadline]. It will center on the classic character famously played by Steven McQueen in the 1968 thriller “Bullitt”.
I can dig this. Spielberg is not aiming to remake the 1968 original. This would be his return to action set pieces, which he is an absolute master at. How can you not get excited for a grittier Spielberg film?
Set up at Warner Bros. the as-of-yet untitled film will not be penned by Spielberg’s regular writing partner Tony Kushner, but, rather, Josh Singer (“Spotlight,” “The Post”).
Directed by Peter Yates, the original “Bullitt” had to go with intense San Francisco cop Lt. Frank Bullitt, but the film was especially known for its incredibly visceral car chase scenes. However, Deadline are claiming that Spielberg’s version is not a remake and will be completely different.
