Timothee Chalamet is probably going to have a very busy 2023. He already has “Dune: Part Two” being released next year, he’s rumored to star in the next Safdies joint, and, finally, there’s Paul King’s “Wonka.”
King’s “Wonka” test-screened over the weekend to positive notices. I’m allowed to post one reaction I gathered:
I was hesitating in attending the “Wonka” test-screening but I’m glad I did. It’s very inventive, especially in terms of a visual standpoint. There’s some slow world building but I found it dark, dramatic, funny. Chalamet is surprisingly effective, there’s a deadpan style to his acting that perfectly suits the character’s allure. He kind of reinvents Wonka in his own unique fashion.
The people over at Jeff Sneider, ViewerAnon and Big Screen Leaks are backing up the positive “Wonka” intel.
Feig’s film has just test-screened 15 months before its December 2023 release. In it, Chalamet plays Willy Wonka in yet another spinoff of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. The big lure for me here is King, who made those two fantastic “Paddington” movies.
This is supposed to be a prequel to ‘Charlie,’ tackling the early life of Willy Wonka. The rest of the cast is noteworthy: Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant and Keegan Michael-Key.
