I will follow writer-director Jordan Peele whichever direction he chooses to go next in his career. After all, his first two films, “Get Out” and “Us,” weren’t just box-office smashes, but worthy examples of top-tier socially-conscious horror.
Peele has already shot his third film, this one, again, will likely be surrounded by an insane amount of secrecy. We learned yesterday that it will be titled “Nope," with a July 22nd, 2022 release date. A peculiarly imagined poster has also been released. Can you say “evil cloud movie”? …
No, but, really, what is this film about? Obvious speculation ran rampant yesterday on social media. Is this literally about the word “nope”? Is it a “Get Out” sequel? Part of me wants this to be about “cancel culture”, especially since Peele tackled the zeitgeist in his other films. It will most likely be sci-if as metaphor/social commentary etc.
With all that being said, yes, It’s amusing to ponder the plot of this movie, but we all know that it probably won’t be revealed until it starts screening for press early next year.
