I’m set to watch “Matrix Resurrections” tomorrow morning. The fourth installment of the franchise is said to be a very meta affair that might divide fans of the franchise looking for the same old action theatrics.
A writer-friend from the French mag “Les Inrockuptibles” wrote to me saying that it was his favourite movie of the year and that “it was going to polarize many”. Adding, “Many people won’t like it, but I found it deceptive in many ways.”
An American friend who saw it, and is a huge fan of the first three films, claimed that it was “unwatchable with no stakes,” there were “no great action scenes,” and that it was filled with “dumb humour.”
Director Lana Wachowski seems to have pissed off a lot of hardcore fans with this one, but folks who were disappointed by the sequels (“Reloaded” and “Revolutions”) might take a delight in knowing the Matrix rulebook has been thrown out of the window for this one.
The social media embargo lifts tomorrow night 9pm EST. The review embargo is said to lift next Tuesday.
