Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” is the only notable movie NOT to send SAG any screeners. A bold move on the part of Spielberg/Disney, forcing members to pay for their own tickets. A plan that could easily backfire.
Afraid of leaks, perhaps, or waiting until it limps its way to $40 million domestically, regardless, the same thing happened with Spielberg’s “The Post,” making me think it’s more of a Spielberg issue than any kind of studio reluctance.
According to THR, there are talks about when to release “West Side Story” on home video. The trade is reporting that Spielberg has come around to the idea that the old-school theatrical window has forever changed and that “West Sode Story” will be on home video earlier than his previous films.
