The rumor had been that a streamer was willing to buy “Deep Water” off of Disney’s hands, who were none-too-pleased by the film’s hard R-rating, not to mention its staggering 2 hour and 33 minute runtime and the recently broken up Affleck/De Armas refusing to do promotion on the film.
Well, now the film has been sent straight to HULU for streaming in the States and sold to Amazon Prime for the rest of the world. Disney is doing a fire sale on anything left over from 20th Century Fox deal. They’ve laid-off or fired almost 75% of those employees over the last two years. They also have, unintentionally, had the Fox films fail miserably at the box-office, with “The Last Duel” and “West Side Story.”
There is no reason for “Deep Water” to go to streaminf. The script was written by Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”) and directed by Adrian Lyne (“Fatal Attraction”). It’s a film meant for mature audiences, but we all know that the over 35 demographic just isn’t ready to go back to theatres.
