This past April’s “Extraction,” was the biggest Netflix original movie ever. That’s at least according to Netflix who [via Bloomberg] revealed their top 10 most-watched original films of all-time.
“Extraction” was “viewed” by close to 100 million accounts, followed closely by “Bird Box” (89 million) and “Spenser Confidential” (85 million). A majority of the titles in the top 10 skew towards the action genre that dominated Hollywood in the age before superhero saturation (pre-2008). Most of them have A-list stars, including Sandra Bullock, Mark Whalberg, and Ryan Reynolds, amongst others.
Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” which clocks in at 210 minutes, was “watched” by 64.2 million viewers. Notice the quotations in a show having been “watched.” According to Netflix, a person just clicking on a movie, intending to watch it, nothing more, counts as a view. The streaming giant has not released the number of people that actually saw “The Irishman” in its entirety, I would imagine it is much lower than the amount that “watched” it.
