Many directors will never admit that they are bothered by negative reviews, but getting a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is an embarrassing “accomplishment.” I didn’t expect the latest casualty of this shameful mark to be the new Netflix mob movie “The Last Days of American Crime.” This means that, out of 21 reviews, not a single critic in the world has rated it positively. If you remember, 2018's John Travolta-starring “Gotti” and the 2015 Adam Sandler western-comedy “The Ridiculous 6” were both 0% movies as well. “Gotti” still has the distinction of being the 0% movie with the most reviews to its name (55).
Released last Friday, “The Last Days of American Crime” could still get a positive review added to its score in the coming days, I have yet to see it, maybe it will be me, who knows, but a bigger concern is the fact that it has a measly 24% audience score. There have been plenty of critically-maligned movies with generally positive audience scores, but this is not one of them.
Based on Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini's 2009 graphic novel of the same name, “The Last Days of American Crime” tells the tale of a retired career criminal (Édgar Ramírez) who decides to un-retire and seek revenge after the death of his brother Rory (Daniel Fox) at the hands of gangsters. He puts together a team of fellow criminals (Michael Pitt and Anna Brewster) to plan a heist against his bro’s murderers.
“The Last Days of American Crime” clocks in at an epic 2 hours and 28 minutes and is directed by Olivier Megaton. Megaton (I can’t get over that name) is responsible for perpetrating on us the likes of “Columbiana,” “Transporter 3,” “Taken 2,” and “Taken 3.”
“The Last Days of American Crime” is available to stream on Netflix now.
