Josh Trank’s upcoming Al Capone biopic, which was titled “Fonzo,” is now officially called “Capone.” It has also been picked up by Vertical Entertainment and will be released on VOD this year. How’s that for news? [via Film Ratings]
Starring Tom Hardy as the famous Chicago mob figure, “Capone” went into production in early 2018, but then complete radio silence .. for more than two years. No festival bows. No theatrical release date. What gives? After his low-budgeted superhero movie “Chronicle” became a box-office hit, Trank went on to be hired by Marvel but clashed with his producers on 2015’s misbegotten “Fantastic Four.” He was then hired for the “Boba Fett” film from Lucasfilm, but was quickly fired, even before production began. Have similar issues resurfaced on “Capone”?
Trank’s gangster saga, which has an original soundtrack by one-half of Run The Jewels, currently has no release date for its VOD premiere, but chances are it’ll be delivered sooner rather than later, no doubt to take advantage of people being at home right now and the sheer curiosity of this project.
UPDATE: 'Capone' has just received a May 12, 2020 Release Date - Straight-to-VOD
