The jury was out when Paramount announced a sequel to John Krasinski’s masterpiece in terror “A Quiet Place”, especially after the note perfect way the 2017 smash hit ended. However here we are, and if initial reactions to “Part II” are to be believed, Krasinski has yet again pulled another ace from his sleeve, with some calling the sequel “unexpected and satisfying” whilst other say the film is a “masterclass in suspense” and “deserves to be a smash hit”. A few reactions have also singled out actress Millicent Simmonds for her “incredibly emotional” performance.
Krasinski was very open, even during press for the original about how he was open to exploring the wider world he had created, but was unsure at the time whether he would be back in the director’s chair. Here we are two years later, let’s hope the man, one reaction labelled, with “Spielberg-level chops” can re-capture the nerve shredding, ridiculously palpable tension of the original.
The film follows the remaining members of the Abbott family (led by Emily Blunt) as they are forced to venture out into the dangerous world, where they discover that the deadly creatures from the first film are not the only thing out to harm them. Simmonds, Blunt, and Noah Jupe are joined in the sequel by Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou.
“A Quiet Place: Part II” opens in Europe on the 19th March and the US on March 20.
