Consider me shocked, shocked I tell ya, that Blumhouse’s “Fantasy Island” bombed with critics. The trailer looked mediocre enough, but, made on a shoestring budget ($7 million), this Michael Pena-starring horror adaptation of the popular 1977 ABC series amassed a more-than-decent $15 million this weekend at the box-office. Yes, despite the tepid trailer, its embarrassing 9% Rotten Tomatoes rating and 20 score on Metacritic, “Fantasy Island” is going to be a small-scaled hit for Blumhouse. The film barely screened for critics in my neck of the woods, I missed the lone showing, alas, maybe I’ll take one for the team, churn out the cash and go see it tomorrow afternoon.
