“The Irishman,” Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated mob drama, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Anna Paquin, will be released on Netflix later this fall, but don’t expect it to make the festival rounds, not even New York.
Scorsese and De Niro have vehemently insisted on a theatrical release for the movie, possibly a 2-4 week window, before its streaming release on Netflix. Of course, Netflix has the final say on this matter and the streaming giant have been fairly hush-hush in their managing of “The Irishman.” Rumors are pointing towards the film completely skipping the fall festival circuit.
UPDATE: Anne Thompson is basically confirming what I’ve reported today in the aptly titled “Don’t Expect Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’ to Screen at Fall Film Festivals”
