Love AOC or hate AOC, the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez documentary, “Knock Down the House,” which was a hit at Sundance, is actually an excellent cinema-verite work about the emergence of a grass-roots campaign. Directed by Rachel Lears – reportedly the day after the 2016 election – the film follows four women who are running grass-roots campaign all across the country, aiming for congress in the 2018 mid-term elections.
‘Knock’ – which won the Audience Award: U.S. Documentary and the Festival Favorite Award at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival – is actually the product of a Kickstarter campaign. The film was picked up by Netflix and will be streaming on May 1.
My Sundance Review gave the doc a B+
