Only a few days after celebrating his 84th birthday, not to mention settling his lawsuit with Amazon, Woody Allen’s blacklisted “A Rainy Day in New York” has leaked online on illegal piracy downloading sites.
Allen’s 49th film as writer-director, “A Rainy Day in New York,” never came out in the States due to Allen being axed via 25-year-old #MeToo allegations, which he fervently still denies, and the ensuing bout that came with “cancel culture.” The film was completed in 2018, but its distributor, Amazon Studios, halted the release of the film following the controversy.
Suffice to say, no U.S. distributor wanted to touch ‘Rainy Day’ (the film was originally part of the Amazon deal that Allen had signed with the streaming company). And so, cinephiles are left with the choice of illegally downloading the damn thing, which is obviously far better than the other option of it never seeing the light of day. Thank you, internet.
Europe seems to have had no problem with the film, as it opened this summer in Poland (7.26) Lithuania (8.2), Greece (8.22), the Netherlands (8.29), Turkey (8.30), France (9.18), Czech Republic (9.26), Italy (10.3), Spain (10.4) and Mexico (10.25).
However, the wokest countries in the world (U.S, Germany and the U.K.) decided to abstain and boycott Allen’s latest. You see, Woody is still toxic to the Robespierre-like tyrannicals in this country. I did, however, predict a few months ago that a leak would eventually happen, and it looked like this would be the only way Allen could convey his blacklisted film to longtime fans.
Allen is currently in post-production on a new film in Europe, titled “Rivkin’s Festival.”
