Disney is requiring theaters to show The Last Jedi in their largest auditorium for a minimum of 4 weeks, and will receive about 65% of ticket-sales revenue. Violators will face an addition 5% sales charge.

‘The Last Jedi,’ starring John Boyega, above, and Mark Hamill, opens on Dec. 15. Disney will receive about 65% of ticket-sales revenue from the film, and is requiring theaters to show the movie in their largest auditorium for at least four weeks.

I remember Quentin Tarantino being reasonably angered by being forced to pull out of a contract with a theater chain when "The Hateful Eight" was released, all this because Disney threatened to not allow them to show any future SW films if they didn't drop QT's film to give "The Force Awakens" another week or two. This was a screen that QT was very adamant in showing his film at because it supported 70mm prints. He even stated something akin to "how much more money can Disney make in a single screen that would make it worth screwing him over?"

"Before exhibitors can begin screening “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” this December, they must first commit to a set of top-secret terms that numerous theater owners say are the most onerous they’ve ever seen. Disney will receive about 65% of ticket-sales revenue from the film, a new benchmark for a Hollywood studio. Disney is also requiring theaters to show the movie in their largest auditorium for at least four weeks. Ignoring the terms carries an unusual penalty. If a theater violates any condition of the distribution agreement, Disney can charge it an additional 5%, bringing the studio’s total haul to 70% of sales on a movie likely to gross more than $500 million at the domestic box office."
