Many people are already saying the Best Actor Oscar this year will be Gary Oldman's to lose. Oldman has been around for nearly 4 decades and he has yet to have won the golden statuette. "Leon," "Dracula," "True Romance," "The Dark Knight," "JFK," "State of Grace," and, of course, "Sid and Nancy." Such a legend at his craft. Just cancel the show and give this man the Academy Award.
Joe Wright ("Atonement," "Pride and Prejudice," "Hannah") directs and let's hope this transcends typical brit studios exports of very safe, traditional, and predictable biopics. I do like Joe Wright better than Tom Hooper, that's for sure. Anyone that can shoot that astounding Dunkirk long-take in "Atonement" is fine in my books, even if they were responsible for 'The Soloist,' remember that?
