Who are we kidding here. Plenty of comic book DC/Marvel movies should have been rated R in the first place. The fact that they weren't and instead went with PG-13 completely diminished the quality and impact they could have had. I'm not going to start going into movies that would have benefited, but you can insert whatever you think would have been worthy of the magical R in the comment section.
Deadpool and Logan could not have been the great films they were if they were PG-13. No way. The violence in them is part of the story, part of the identity that comes with the titular characters.
Of course, it wasn't just the R rating that made Logan the instant uperhero classic that it is. It's not just the violence that made those movies work. It was the filmmaking process. It's a collaborative effort. When you give a director and screenwriter "carte blanche" to make a film that has an uncompromised vision, films like "Logan" and "Deadpool" happen. Simple as that.
The Wrap is now reporting that DC execs are VERY interested in jumping on the bandwagon:
A well-placed insider at Warner Bros.’ DC Films says the answer is simple: Absolutely.
“One hundred percent yes. With the right character(s),” the person wrote to TheWrap.

Fandango also conducted a survey among moviegoers asking if they would want their superhero movies “Deadpool”-style, loaded up with sex and violence."
Again, The Wrap has this:
"According to the findings, 71 percent of those polled said they want more R-rated superhero blockbusters. Eighty-six percent said they’re eager to check out “Logan” because it promises a “more violent R-rated X-Men movie.” “Logan” is the first R-rated film in the X-Men franchise."
"Fandango surveyed 1,000 “Logan” ticket buyers to garner the results."
