There’s been temptation from some studios to pull an “October surprise” and release films only meant to be unveiled in 2025. Two of them, according to Kyle Buchanan, are Kogonada’s “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” and Bill Condon’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”

The film follows a burned-out former baseball player (Austin Butler) who is plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ‘90s NYC. Sounds like something the Safdies would concoct.

Snyder's next film, which isn't planned at Netflix, will be set in the world of UFC. Zach Baylin (“King Richard”) co-wrote the screenplay with Snyder. It’s planned as a theatrical film, with the UFC (including its president, Dana White) being directly involved. 

“The Nanny” star Fran Drescher, known for her nasally, raspy, high-pitched voice, has joined the cast of Josh Safdie’s ping pong movie. She will be playing the mother of Timothée Chalamet’s character.

How on earth did this film cost $190M? Puck’s Matt Belloni is reporting that Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga and Todd Phillips alone made up around $50M of the budget. The costs-benefit analysis isn’t good, especially for a film that’s now at a paltry 39% on Rotten Tomatoes.

LADBible is reporting that the first official UK screening of “Terrifier 3” has led to people walking out in the opening scene alone, with “one person so far having been confirmed to have puked.”

This toxic word of mouth, that ‘Folie à Deux’ is a dreadful movie, is spreading fast, and it’s now becoming quite clear that the entire thing was a misbegotten project from the start.

The controversial “Rust,” directed by Joel Souza, is set to have its world premiere at the Cameraimage Film Festival in Poland. This isn’t some low rent film fest either, Cameraimage tends to have some pretty big names show up for screenings.

Cameras are about to roll on Derek Cianfrance’s “Roofman” which stars Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst. Miramax has just landed domestic and international rights for the film.
