Last month, I wrote how the cast of Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme,” which is currently filming in NYC, kept “getting weirder by the day,” and today it only got more eccentric with the addition of another unusual actress.
“The Nanny” star Fran Drescher, known for her nasally, raspy, high-pitched voice, has joined the cast of Josh Safdie’s ping pong movie. She will be playing the mother of Timothée Chalamet’s character (via Variety).
Drescher joins a supporting cast that already included rapper Tyler, the Creator, “Goop” entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow, magician Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller), investor and “Shark Tank” personality Kevin O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful) and eccentric director Abel Ferrara.
Set in the 1950s, “Marty Supreme,” produced by A24, will tell the wild story of a ping pong champion. It is said to be a “fictional work,” but former pong champ Marty Reisman’s life is being used as a template here. The screenplay was written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.
