The first time I saw Steven Spielberg’s cat-and-mouse flick "Catch Me If You Can," I knew it was destined to become a classic. Of course, over the years, when you talk about Spielberg's best films you will have people name-checking the usuals, such as “Saving Private Ryan,” “Schindler’s List,” "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and "Minority Report." But “Catch Me If You Can”? Almost never mentioned.

Consider me a tad intrigued by this first trailer of Jordan Peele's "Us," which is his sophomore effort, after the triumph that was "Get Out." There's no doubt in my mind that Peele is a promising filmmaker, his debut made waves in a manner that could be compared to Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs," it shook the industry. Peele ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in the process.

Upon its release in 1982, "Blade Runner“ had so much studio interference that its history is the stuff of legend. Receiving mixed reviews upon its release, it ended up receiving a cult following on home video — which got director Ridley Scott amped up and screening his own "final" versions, out of his own pocket, to audiences around the country. There have been several versions of "Blade Runner", seven to be exact, but the ultimate seems be 1992's "Final Cut" which got rid of the narration, left us with an extra final brilliant shot, and fixed many of the plot holes present in the original. It was the only time Scott ever had total creative freedom in the editing room for the film and it would only come 25 years after its release.

John Cena, Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista are the most successful wrestlers to have made the jump to Hollywood acting — many others have tried but failed to ignite superstardom (Triple H, Steve Austin, Bill Goldberg).
It feels like just yesterday that Cena had criticized Johnson's decision to go to acting as a "betrayal." However, now that Cena has made a career acting in such films as "Blockers," "Trainwreck," "The Wall" and this weekend's newly-released blockbuster "Bumblebee," he now admits that he was wrong to criticize Johnson, “I’m sorry and I was wrong,” he said during an appearance on the Gorilla Position Podcast (via Screen Rant). “That’s the best thing I can do.”

An interview in the upcoming issue of Empire Magazine, has “Star Wars” actor John Boyega confirming that ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ will take place one year after the conclusion of ‘The Last Jedi.’ There had been speculation amongst fans of a possible and significant time-jump between ‘The Last Jedi’ and the untitled ‘Episode IX.’ This would allow the little boy at the very end of the film to play a major adult role in the films — just a hunch on my part...

The corny voiceover work for the re-release of John McTiernan's "Die Hard" tries to ram home the message that the 1988 actioneer is "the greatest Christmas story ever told."
"Get ready to jingle some bells and deck the halls with boughs of Bruce Willis," the narrator says. Going on to add "Stylish and cool Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) is in Los Angeles as well for the holiday season, but he's not there to give out presents."

Back in 2008 Will Ferrell was coming off back-to-back critical and box-office disappointments with "Semi Pro" and "Blades of Glory." Never one to be counted out, the popular comedian decided to re-team with with John C. Reilly for his next movie. There were clearly comedic sparks happening between the two of them, what with the infectious chemistry they showcased in 2006's "Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby." It was inevitable that they would team up again for another comedy.

Read more“Hellboy” actors Ron Perlman and Selma Blair take subtle shots at upcoming reboot on social media
For some reason I missed the trailer for the upcoming “Hellboy” reboot. As far as I’m concerned, Guillermo del Toro gave us as perfect an adaptation as you can get with "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." He fought for Ron Perlman to be cast, he fought for the budget and he fought for creative control. There is no way we can have a better Hellboy without Del Toro at the reign.

Fox has announced that both "Dark Phoenix" and "The New Mutants“ will be released next year, only adding to the staggering lineup of superhero films due for release in 2019. In fact, the WB was scared that their sequel to "Wonder Woman“ would be lost in this deluge of banality that they decided to delay its release by a year, it’s now slated for 2020. This influx of superhero releases is mainly due to the DCEU trying to reboot itself with 3 releases whilst Fox will be releasing most likely their last 2 films before they integrate with Disney. Meanwhile, Marvel has another 3 films and an additional two smaller R-Rated superhero flicks.
Read more‘Men In Black’ Reboot Trailer: We Already Miss Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones
This looks abhorrent and forced.
I like some of director F. Gary Gray's movies (“The Italian Job,” “Straight Outta Compton”), but did we really need this reboot of "Men in Black" starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson? It looks like Gray is taking it in a whole different direction, not exactly in buddy cop genre land like the last film. Thompson and Hemsworth, taking on the spirit of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith's roles in the original, will play secret government agents handling aliens on earth. Of course, they need to both be wearing those iconic black suits and sunglasses. But there's something missing in this trailer, that extra oomph needed to lure us to buy a ticket to this film.

After giving us the best movie of 2017 ("Get Out") we all were wondering what the next provocation from writer-director Jordan Peele would look like. I thought Lukas Dhont's "Girl" was one of the surprises of Cannes' Un Certain Regard program back in May. I wrote in my review:
"From its very first moments, the beautifully controlled and artful “Girl” – the feature debut of young Belgian director Lukas Dhont – grips and takes hold. This deeply emphatic portrayal of a trans teen has an expressive camera that observes and listens, rather than forces you to succumb to emotions. The trajectory of the story’s protagonist, Lara, who is determined to become a ballet dancer despite feeling trapped in a body she doesn’t recognize, sounds a little exploitative on paper, but the end result is quite the opposite. Sensitively rendered cinema with a capital C, “Girl” features a lovely naturalism and an attention to detail so delicately constructed characters feel like full flesh and blood."

Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” is now 10 years old. I wrote about this important anniversary earlier this summer, but it seems like the op-eds just keep on coming.
Vulture has published an article on that now infamous pencil trick scene, which had Heath Ledger’s Joker making a pencil "disappear" by jamming it into a gangster’s head. The film's cinematographer Wally Pfister, speaking to Vulture, believes that that scene alone should have gotten the film an R-rating.
