The 48th César Awards happened in France this evening, this is their equivalent to the Oscars. The ceremony took place at Paris’s Olympia concert hall.
Dominic Moll’s “The Night of the 12th,” a striking whodunnit, won Best Film. I have no idea when it will be released in the US, but it’s well worth seeking out.
Benoit Magimel won Best Actor for “Pacification,” which was indeed an incredible performance. I’m not sure how that high-wire act of a film would have worked without Magimel’s eccentric and magnetic acting.
The talented Virginie Efira won Best Actress for “Paris Memories.” She should have won it last year for “Benedetta.” What’s strange about this win is that it wasn’t even Efira’s best 2022 performance — she was better in “Other People’s Children.”
David Fincher received a career César honorary award with Brad Pitt presenting the award to him. Pitt presented with a 5-minute speech, whereas Fincher decided to talk for just a minute. Amusing.
