Here’s an interesting scoop. Beyond the Trailer’s Grace Randolph has some inside info as to what to expect when it comes to Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie A Deux.”
Randolph is reporting that ‘Folie A Deux’ will tell the story from the perspective of both characters: Harley and The Joker. The film’s main plot will revolve around the music therapy sessions they both have in Arkham Asylum.
That’s either very good or very bad news for fans of the original “Joker.” It all depends as to how … adventurous your cinematic tastes are. Phillips is definitely not repeating the same formula as the 2019 Venice-winning film.
Incorporating music therapy into the plot is actually an inspired creative decision on the part of Phillips, this would make the musical numbers more believable and fit in quite nicely with the rest of the plot.
Apparently, the music style of ‘Folie A Deux’ is heavily inspired by Liza Minelli's musicals, such as “Cabaret” and “That’s Entertainment!”
Phillips has mentioned that the inspiration for “Joker” was “Taxi Driver,” and you could clearly see that watching that movie. Supposedly, ‘Folie A Deux’ is said to be influenced by Scorsese’s 1977 bomb “New York, New York” starring De Niro and Minelli.
The first “Joker” made $1 billion dollars worldwide. The fact that this sequel is a musical starring Lady Gaga makes me think that maybe it won’t be as popular a film as the first one.
