Finally, this nonsense Andrea Riseborough “investigation” has come to and end.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has determined that no punitive action will be taken against the best actress Oscar nominee or those who lobbied for her to receive recognition, the organization announced on Tuesday.
“The Academy has determined the activity in question does not rise to the level that the film’s nomination should be rescinded,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer said in a statement. “However, we did discover social media and outreach campaigning tactics that caused concern. These tactics are being addressed with the responsible parties directly.”
Now that momentum, and attention, is on her side, it’s time for her to win the Oscar. No, I’m serious. As much as Blanchett’s work in “TÁR” is an all-timer performance, nothing would make me happier come Oscar night than to see Riseborough’s name called up on-stage.
This whole situation got more bizarre as it went along. In reality, complaining Academy members showed their hypocrisy. Just makes me think about how Harvey Weinstein would host parties and send gift baskets so his movies would win. What were the “To Leslie” team guilt of, exactly? Asking voters to watch the movie. You can’t make this stuff up.
It's funny, to take a step back and appreciate the absurdity of the Oscars. The one who didn't spend millions lobbying voters was considered the suspicious one.
