Currently in pre-production mode for his upcoming Viagra musical, titled “Rise,” Spike Lee is already circling his next project after that one.
Deadline is reporting that Lee is in talks to direct “Da Understudy” and that Jonathan Majors will star in the film. Amazon Studios is backing this one.
Tom Hanada, Zach Strauss and Tyler Cole wrote the screenplay, which is based on an original story by Cole. Here’s the synopsis we have so far:
Da Understudy tells the story of life imitating art when the understudy of a Broadway production finds a role he’s willing to kill for.
Majors is coming off Oscar buzz from Sundance for his impressive performance as a deranged bodybuilder in “Magazine Dreams.” Oh, and he also stars in the two biggest movies currently playing in theaters (“Creed III” and “Ant-Man: Quantamania”).
Majors is the real deal. He has one hell of a career ahead of him, as long as he chooses the right roles and picks the right filmmakers to work with. Teaming-up with Spike Lee is definitely a good career decision, they already worked together on 2020’s “Da 5 Bloods.”
