The marketing for Jeremy Saulnier's "Slayground" has confused many, with the teaser promising a release "this fall," which suggests sometime between October and November. That would be rather odd, given that no trailer or poster has been released and there has been next to no marketing.
The reliable EmpireCity Box Office might finally have the answer. It reports that the countdown of fewer than 30 days, visible on the film's just-unveiled official site, will lead to the first trailer for "Slayground," and that the film will likely be released on January 29, 2027.
Given that date, I wouldn't be surprised if "Slayground" had its world premiere at Sundance, in the festival's very first edition in Boulder, Colorado. The original plan was to release this Halloween-set film in October (its original title was "October"), but Saulnier is still editing it. The last test screening featured a 2½-hour cut and drew very positive reactions.
Saulnier wrote and directed “Slayground,” a “fugitive thriller.” Cory Michael Smith stars as a mass murder suspect who escapes police custody and goes on the run to prove his innocence amid a massive manhunt. Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, Stephen Root, Imogen Poots, Matty Matheson, and Young Mazino co-star, with Macon Blair in a small role.
The film is set to star Hugh Jackman, while Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper are circling roles. Jack Thorne, who is red-hot these days thanks to his work on the acclaimed Netflix series "Adolescence.”
