First Look at Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘Digger’ Teases Tom Cruise’s Wildest Transformation

UPDATE: Per request, the images have been taken down. Hopefully, we’ll get some official stills very soon.

EARLIER: Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Digger,” starring Tom Cruise, will have a 3-minute teaser released today — if you care to check, it’s already out there, circulating online.

Now, you’re probably asking — how is it a teaser if it’s a lengthy 3 minutes? Well, that’s because the first two minutes are a Tom Cruise montage from his other movies, with only 20 seconds of new footage shown, while Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” plays in the background.

You also don’t really get a good look at Tom Cruise’s transformation. He plays Digger Rockwell, the most powerful man in the world — a balding, pot-bellied, cocky Texas oil tycoon, complete with a thick Southern accent.

I’ve attached below a few stills from the film.

In “Digger,” Rockwell is warned about a massive glacier named Judy — hence the film’s original working title — that is set to wreak global chaos. When he initially refuses to heed the warnings, the consequences become dire, ultimately forcing him to step up and try to save the planet from catastrophe.

A few weeks ago, I posted a few test reactions to the film. Visually, “Digger” is reportedly stunning, thanks to DP Emmanuel Lubezki, with the stylish sets being compared to Poor Things. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s direction is also getting big props for its inventive framing and blocking. Tom Cruise, in a Les Grossman-type role, is reportedly highly entertaining. The film itself seems polarizing.

John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, and Michael Stuhlbarg also star. “Digger” is reportedly going to skip the fall festivals entirely and hit theaters on October 2.
