This film keeps getting crazier by the day.
“Bitcoin,” formerly titled “Killing Satochi,” which is Doug Liman’s much-discussed AI-enhanced upcoming film, starring Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, Gal Gadot, and Isla Fisher, was already courting controversy — but now things have become even more interesting.
According to Deadline, portrayals of Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Eric Trump are all set to appear in the film. These figures will reportedly be portrayed by actors whose faces are enhanced with AI to more closely resemble the real-life individuals. Zuckerberg and Trump have the most lines in the script.
Liman’s upcoming crypto thriller has already generated significant controversy for its ambitious use of artificial intelligence. Rather than relying on traditional location shoots, the production is using a “markerless performative capture stage,” a technology-driven approach that allows scenes to be created digitally. The process reportedly reduced production costs dramatically, bringing the budget down to around $70M instead of the estimated $200–300M. The film was reportedly shot in just 20 days.
The film reunites Liman with Affleck, who stars as controversial computer scientist Craig Wright. The pair previously collaborated on The Instigators. Davidson portrays blockchain investor Calvin Ayre, while Gadot plays Charlotte “Lotte” Miller. The screenplay comes from Nick Schenk, best known for “Gran Torino.” The film is currently in post-production.
Liman is the filmmaker behind “Swingers,” “Go,” “The Bourne Identity,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” and “American Made.”
“Bitcoin” currently does not have U.S. distribution. Which studio will want to touch this film — Vertical Entertainment, Ketchup Entertainment, or Briarcliff Entertainment?
