And just like that, Ryan Gosling has exited Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s upcoming untitled action sci-fi comedy. It’s slated to shoot in early summer, and that’s apparently still the plan. The budget sits at around $150 million, which means the hunt is on for an A-lister to step in for Gosling.
The line being fed to the trades: the film secured a California tax credit and could not move its planned start date. This created a scheduling conflict with Gosling, who is finishing work on the upcoming “Star Wars: Starfighter”—despite Lucasfilm already announcing that filming wrapped on December 18. Could “Starfighter” be heading for reshoots? Or is the real reason Gosling left over a salary dispute?
Regardless, the film is back to square one, with no cast attached—or at least none officially announced. We still don’t know the plot, and it doesn’t even have a title yet. It’s disappointing that Gosling won’t be involved, as his acting style seemed like it could have paired well with the directing duo. I’m sure more details will be coming soon.
