We haven’t had a “Scary Movie” instalment since 2013, but the horror parody franchise is set to return this summer.
The Wayans “are back to cancel the Cancel Culture” — that’s what Paramount’s YouTube description for the “Scary Movie 6” trailer claims. There’s a They/Them joke inserted in there, along with a “safe spaces” quip and a line about how “Republicans are supposed to be racist.” Somehow, doofy is back.
The trailer has the sequel lampooning “Get Out,” “Megan,” “Wednesday,” “Sinners,” “Smile,” “Weapons,” “Terrifier,” “Longlegs,” “The Substance,” and others. Listen, I think this movie will be a huge hit, banking not just on nostalgia, but the current rise of horror movies as events this decade — that said, this is going to rub most critics the wrong way.
The Wayans, who are writing the screenplay with Rick Alvarez (“A Haunted House,” “Fifty Shades of Black,” “Scary Movie 2”), will have returning stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall reprising their roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks. The rest of the cast includes Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott and Jon Abrahams.
Marlon recently confirmed that if “Scary Movie 6” turns out to be a success, his next film will be “White Chicks 2,” so buy a ticket at your own peril—we might be entering a Wayanaissance in the coming months.
“Scary Movie 6” is set for June 12, 2026 theatrical release via Paramount.
