Mary Bronstein impressed many with “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” her sophomore effort and a big artistic step forward, which led to a much-deserved Oscar nomination for Rose Byrne.
While I would have loved to see Bronstein continue making feature films, she has decided that her next project will be an Apple-produced limited series.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cecily Strong will lead Bronstein’s new series, which draws inspiration from New York Magazine’s article “The Nanny Squatter.” The show centers on a couple whose lives unravel after they welcome a seemingly perfect caregiver into their home. As personal boundaries erode and power dynamics shift, what begins as a straightforward arrangement escalates into an increasingly tense and unsettling struggle for control.
Bronstein will write and direct the series and also serve as showrunner. You might have expected that, after all the acclaim “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” received, she would continue working in film; instead, this appears to be her next project.
