Harry Melling could be the latest addition to Zach Cregger’s upcoming thriller “The Flood,” with multiple sources telling TheInSneider that the ‘Harry Potter’ alum is in talks to join the film, which is slated to star Jennifer Lawrence.
Melling is coming off his acclaimed performance in “Pillion.” His other credits include “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” “The Lost City of Z,” “The Queen’s Gambit,” and “The Pale Blue Eye.” It sounds like Cregger has been paying attention.
The plan right now is for “The Flood” to start production in early 2027. Cregger has no other project lined up to direct, and this will definitely be his next film. It’ll also be his most expensive, especially with Lawrence’s usual $20M-per-movie fee included in the totals.
Word of caution. All Warner Bros. projects are currently being re-examined by Skydance executives, meaning no talent deals are in place just yet. Still, Warner Bros. executives Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein are expected to greenlight “The Flood,” given Cregger’s increasingly impressive box-office track record. They’d be fools not to.
No further casting has been made beyond Lawrence and Melling, but plenty of roles remain to be filled, with many suspecting that Cregger regular Austin Abrams will be part of the ensemble — he’s appeared in the director’s last two films.
Cregger has become one of Hollywood’s safest bets in the horror genre. His 2022 breakout Barbarian grossed $46M worldwide on a reported $4.5M budget, while “Weapons,” which reportedly cost $38M, went on to earn $270M globally. His upcoming Resident Evil reboot, meanwhile, reportedly cost $80M and has grossed almost $400M to date.
Warner Bros. currently has “The Flood” scheduled for theatrical release on August 11, 2028.
Jaume Collet-Serra is directing, which makes perfect sense. He's the guy who turned "Carry-On" — a script that sat on a shelf for 11 years — into Netflix's third most-watched film ever.
