The ensemble keeps growing. Joseph Kosinski's "Miami Vice '85" has added the always-reliable Walton Goggins to a cast that already includes Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler, John Leguizamo, Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Andrew Schulz, Edi Gathegi, and Danny Ramirez.
That's quite the cast, and according to Deadline, it wasn't easy for Kosinski to land Goggins, who had to work around his schedule on the hit series "Fallout" before he could join "Miami Vice '85." Goggins will play one of the henchmen to Leguizamo's cartel kingpin.
Goggins has been one of the most consistently interesting TV actors working, and Hollywood is only now catching up. The résumé speaks for itself: “The Shield,” “Justified,” “Vice Principals,” “The Righteous Gemstones,” “Fallout,” and “The White Lotus.” On the film side, there's his Tarantino, where he played Sheriff Chris Mannix in “The Hateful Eight.” That's the best supporting turn in that film. Add “Django Unchained,” “Lincoln,” and you have a character actor Hollywood still hasn't given a proper leading role.
Dan Gilroy (“Nightcrawler”) wrote the “Miami Vice ‘85” script, which takes its cues from the pilot of the iconic NBC series and dives into the sleaze, excess and neon-drenched corruption of mid-'80s Miami. Kosinski is shooting it for Imax, with cameras rolling in November. Universal has it dated for May 19, 2028.
The decision has reportedly been made, though David Ellison apparently hasn't delivered the news to them directly yet. Those calls are expected by Tuesday morning.
